Making a difference for the differently-abled in Austin, TX
Everyone’s unique abilities have a place and purpose
ABM and The Arc of the Capital Area in Austin, Texas, work together to help the differently-abled use their talents to find gainful employment and achieve greater self-sufficiency.
ABM and the Arc’s relationship began in San Francisco, where we employ several Arc program participants who work as conference room concierges for a large social media client. Their role is to reset rooms between meetings, such cleaning white boards, stocking supplies, resetting chairs, and organizing. The client also has an office in Austin, Texas, and approached ABM about additional hiring conference room concierges for that location. ABM team member Brandon Villa helped get a pilot training program with the Arc off the ground within two weeks, and since then nearly 20 more companies have given employment opportunities to Arc participants.
This story proves that when we celebrate and respect one another’s differences, everyone is free to find their purpose and place.
